Proper operation and environmental monitoring of Solid Waste Management facilities, including Green Points, are conducted in many countries worldwide, with the goal of ensuring Public Health and preventing Environmental pollution. Environmental monitoring is now mandatory within the European Union based on relevant directives and Greek legislation.
More specifically, the execution of proper operation and environmental monitoring includes:
- Operation/maintenance and management of Green Points
- Collection and transportation of the collected quantities to licensed processing/management or disposal units
- Recording of incoming and outgoing quantities at the Green Point, separately for each material category
- Collection and transportation of collected leachates to licensed processing units
- Maintenance of equipment and facilities
- Irrigation/care of the flora at the Green Points
- Information dissemination to authorities and the public about the operation of Green Points
